My name is Jim Harold and I’ve been podcasting since 2005. Podcasting has changed my life, so much so, that it has been my full-time job since 2012. The idea for this site started after being led to feel “less than” for being “just a podcaster.” After mumbling to myself for days about this slight, I decided that being an indie podcaster is something to celebrate and I would create a site to do so. I love the idea of a place where I can give my two cents about podcasting.
As my first salvo, I posted the following online salute to independent podcasting on social media and it struck a chord. This is dedicated to all of those indies out there:
They say I’m “just a podcaster” and I guess they’re right.
If it means creating an idea out of thin air and bringing it to life without a big conglomerate behind me then I’m just a podcaster.
If it means spending late nights learning all the little gotchas in even posting one episode let alone hundreds then I’m just a podcaster.
If it means working hard every week to improve without talent coaches, consultants, and a big staff I’m just a podcaster.
If it is building a worldwide audience of thousands who’ve now become my friends, it turns out I’m just a podcaster.
If it’s being Chief Engineer, Sales Manager, the IT guy, Producer, Production Manager, Traffic Director and “the talent” I guess I’m just a podcaster.
If it means I can sail my own ship and do the show that’s in my heart without answering to “the man” then, yes, I am just a podcaster. You know what? I’m just a podcaster and damned proud of it!
“Just a podcaster” since 2005
I’ll post here when I’m not too busy actually podcasting. Stay tuned, more to come…
